Balloon Festival

The 2019 King Valley Balloon Festival welcomes the Van Gogh balloon from the Netherlands with assistance from Visit Victoria. The balloon is a 3D representation Vincent Van Gogh’s 1887 painting “Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat”. This is the most intricate piece of flying art in the world with brush strokes faithfully reproduced from the original oil on canvas artwork and is best seen in real life.

Each morning up to 20 balloons launch at Milawa in northeast Victoria’s King Valley. The Mass Ascensions take place between 7am and 8am daily and spectators are welcome onto the launch field. The balloons often fly towards Oxley and beyond.

A family favourite is the Brown Brothers Night Glow in the late afternoon on Saturday 8th. Imaginations young and old are captured as tethered balloons glow in time to music just after sunset. There will be a variety of entertainment, food and drink available, and BYO picnics are welcome. This is a ticketed event with full details available here shortly.

You can experience this amazing visual spectacle from the air with Goldrush Ballooning. Flights with the festival balloons can be booked here. The King Valley Doctor, a low level wind prevalent most mornings, makes for excellent balloon flying conditions in the greater King Valley.

The wineries and gourmet producers of the King Valley offer many things to do after your ballooning experience. As more information becomes available you will find it here and you are also welcome to contact us. Please also view the official event website here. Brown Brother Milawa Airfield is located on the eastern side of 239 Milawa-Bobinawarrah Rd, Milawa, Victoria 3678.
